The
28-acre park is located on VFW Road, north of Jackson
Street (Rt. 150). The park is the home facility for
the Morton
Youth Baseball Association (M.Y.B.A.). The association
has provided the labor and funds to develop the 5
baseball fields located in the park. They are also
responsible for construction of their maintenance
garage and the batting cages that were installed in
1996. The baseball complex is the host sight for the
State Junior High Boys Baseball Tournament in early
September. The park is also home to the Park Districts
Fastpitch softball field. 'Lions' field was developed
through the cooperation of the Morton Lion's Club
and volunteer community help. The baseball/softball
complex includes a small playground, park shelter,
and a utility building that contains public restrooms
and a concession area.
The
Morton Park District maintenance building is located
in the park. There is a large wooded area that borders
the west end of the park along the abandoned Norfolk
& Southern railroad right of way. A section of this
right of way has been acquired to develop a future
link from the park to the Morton
Community Bikeway along Jackson Street (Rt. 150).
