Swimming Pool Update
"Pardon
Our Construction!"
Construction
of the new pool continues during the winter months with
work concentrating on the new bathhouse. The building
will include men’s and women’s locker rooms,
a family changing room, concession stand, mechanical
filter room, guard office, storage rooms, and exterior
rest rooms for Idlewood Park users. All three pools
included in the new facility are in the ground and ready
for painting. The deck areas, slides, diving boards,
light poles, shade structures, and parking lot are scheduled
for completion in the spring. During the late summer
and early fall the existing facility was demolished.
The new pool is still on schedule to open Memorial Day
weekend.
The
project has come a long way from this time last year.
The general contractor, P.J. Hoerr, has done a wonderful
job of accomplishing so much despite the unrelenting
weather issues during the last year and we continue
to rely on the of the pool design engineers from Farnsworth
Group during the construction process. We will continue
to update the web site as we get closer to the opening
of the new pool.

Project
Overview
The
original pool was constructed in 1963 and faithfully
served the residents of Morton for 44 years without
a major renovation. The Park District retained the services
of Farnsworth and Associates in 2006 to review the current
facility and prepare a recommendation for the facility.
They determined that the best choice for the pool was
to demolish the entire facility and construct a new
pool at the same location. They prepared a design for
a new pool that will serve the residents of Morton for
25+ years. The new "Family Aquatic Center"
will include an 8 lane competitive pool with appropriate
depth for starting blocks, a wading pool with a built
in playground as part of the pool, two water slides,
a 3 meter high dive and 1 meter low board, an attractive
bathhouse, permanent shade areas for public comfort,
turf areas for sun bathing, and Wi-Fi for onsite internet
access.
