New
Swimming Pool Update
The
public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony
for the new outdoor swimming facility, located at 451
E. Idlewood, on Saturday, June 12. The doors to the
facility will open at 8:00 am with formal remarks and
dedication scheduled for 9:00 am. The new pool opened
on May 29th and features an eight lane competitive pool,
diving well with a one meter and three meter (high dive)
diving boards, two 30ft high body slides (1 fully enclosed),
a zero depth splash pool playground for young swimmers,
large shade structures for public comfort and Wi-Fi
internet access. Information about hours of operation,
admission fees and program use will be available at

The
Park District wants to extend a thank you to the Morton
Chamber of Commerce for incorporating the new pool opening
into their 2010 Pumpkin Festival theme. The pool will
provide a fun and exciting aquatic experience for the
entire family! See for yourself what all the excitement
is about when you visit the pool and "Splash
into Summer".

Project
Overview
The
original pool was constructed in 1963 and faithfully
served the residents of Morton for 44 years without
a major renovation. The Park District retained the services
of Farnsworth and Associates in 2006 to review the current
facility and prepare a recommendation for the facility.
They determined that the best choice for the pool was
to demolish the entire facility and construct a new
pool at the same location. They prepared a design for
a new pool that will serve the residents of Morton for
25+ years. The new "Family Aquatic Center"
will include an 8 lane competitive pool with appropriate
depth for starting blocks, a wading pool with a built
in playground as part of the pool, two water slides,
a 3 meter high dive and 1 meter low board, an attractive
bathhouse, permanent shade areas for public comfort,
turf areas for sun bathing, and Wi-Fi for onsite internet
access.
